In the main report, Sergei Chemezov, the leader of the initiative group, justified the necessity of creating the "All-Russian Union of Machine Builders" and outlined the main directions of its upcoming activities. The leaders of Russia's largest industrial enterprises unanimously supported the idea of forming the Union. Sergei Chemezov, the general director of the State Corporation "Rostec" (currently serving as the general director of FGUP "Rosoboronexport"), was elected as the Union's chairman. On July 27, 2007, the All-Russian Public Organization "Union of Russian Machine Builders" was registered by the Federal Registration Service of the Russian Federation.
