Bitter orange is a plant of the Rutaceae family, also known in French as "bigaradier". This genus includes 12 species of spiny small trees or shrubs, with alternate, elliptical leaves that are pointed at the tip; the base connects to the stem via a winged or flattened petiole; large, fragrant, milky-white flowers that seem to bloom endlessly in succession at the stem tips; and the same applies to the fruits, which can develop throughout the year.Orange trees begin to flower and bear fruit from the 6th year, reach maximum yield by the 20th year, and can then continue producing for 80 years or longer.
