Application Fields
Chemical Raw Materials:
Synthesis of phenolic resins (used in plastics, adhesives, coatings), epoxy resins, polycarbonates, and other polymer materials.
Production of salicylic acid (used in aspirin, skincare products), caprolactam (raw material for Nylon 6), and dye intermediates (such as azo dyes).
Pharmaceuticals and Disinfection:
Historically used as a disinfectant (carbolic acid solution), but due to strong corrosiveness, it is now mostly replaced by derivatives (such as cresol soap solution, i.e., Lysol).
Synthesis of antibacterial drugs and preservatives (such as p-nitrophenol).
Other Uses:
As a solvent (used for extracting alkaloids and synthesizing fragrances).
Used in agriculture for the preparation of insecticides and herbicides.
