Core Application Areas
1. Rubber Industry
Adhesion Promoters: RF resin produced by condensation with formaldehyde is a key adhesive for "bonding between tire cord (fiber reinforcement material) and rubber" in rubber products such as tires and belts, significantly enhancing interfacial adhesion (e.g., bonding between nylon, polyester tire cords and rubber);
Antioxidants and Vulcanizing Agents: Used as an intermediate for rubber antioxidants, or directly for the vulcanization of natural rubber (accelerating cross-linking and improving rubber aging resistance).
2. Pharmaceuticals and Daily Chemicals
Topical Antiseptics: Inhibitory against bacteria and fungi, traditionally used to treat skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne (e.g., compound resorcinol lotion), but due to significant irritation, now mostly replaced by low-irritation alternatives;
Depilatories: Compounded with sodium thiosulfate to achieve hair removal by destroying hair keratin structure (e.g., as an ingredient in depilatory creams);
Cosmetics: Used as an antioxidant (delaying oil oxidation) or as an intermediate for hair dyes (used in conjunction with p-phenylenediamine, etc., to enhance hair dyeing effects).
3. Dye and Pigment Industry
Dye Synthesis: An intermediate for the preparation of azo dyes and anthraquinone dyes, such as acid dyes (used for dyeing wool and silk) and direct dyes (used for dyeing cotton fabrics);
Indicators: Compounds produced by condensation with benzaldehyde can be used as acid-base indicators or fluorescent dyes.
4. Adhesives and Resins
Wood Adhesives: RF resin is used for wood joining (e.g., plywood, laminated materials) due to its strong water resistance and high bonding strength, especially suitable for humid environments;
Composite Materials: Blended with epoxy resins, polyurethane, etc., to improve the heat resistance and corrosion resistance of the resins, used in the preparation of high-performance composite materials.
5. Other Fields
Analytical Chemistry: Used as a colorimetric reagent to detect metal ions (e.g., Fe3+, Cu2+) or sugars (reacts with sugars to form colored condensates);
Agriculture: Used in the preparation of plant growth regulators or fungicides (e.g., for controlling fungal diseases in fruit trees);
Photography: Used as a component in developing agents (assisting in the reduction of silver ions).
