Potassium carbonate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula K2CO3 and a molecular weight of 138.206. It appears as a white crystalline powder with a density of 2.428 g/cm3 and a melting point of 891°C. It is highly soluble in water, forming an alkaline solution, and insoluble in ethanol. It has strong hygroscopic properties, absorbing carbon dioxide and moisture from the air to convert into potassium bicarbonate. It should be packaged in a sealed container.
