Dichloromethane is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH?Cl?. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a pungent odor similar to ether. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in ethanol. Under normal conditions of use, it is a non-flammable, low-boiling-point solvent. Its vapor forms a weakly combustible gas mixture only when present in high concentrations in high-temperature air. It is often used as a substitute for flammable petroleum ether.
1. Used for grain fumigation and as a refrigerant in low-pressure refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
2. Used as a solvent, extractant, and mutagen.
3. Used in the electronics industry, commonly as a cleaning and degreasing agent.
4. Used as a dental local anesthetic, refrigerant, fire extinguishing agent, and for cleaning, degreasing, and demolding of metal surface coatings.
