Ferric chloride is a covalent inorganic compound with the chemical formula FeCl₃. It appears as dark brown crystals, sometimes in flake form, with a melting point of 306°C and a boiling point of 316°C^[1]. It is highly soluble in water and exhibits strong hygroscopicity, capable of absorbing moisture from the air and deliquescing. When crystallized from an aqueous solution, FeCl₃ incorporates six water molecules, forming FeCl₃·6H₂O. Hexahydrate ferric chloride is an orange-yellow crystal. Ferric chloride is a very important iron salt.
